Cristiano Ronaldo has insisted he has no problem with Rasmus Hojlund copying his celebration during Denmark’s win over Portugal on Thursday.

Hojlund scored a late winner as Denmark beat Portugal 1-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Nations League quarter-final tie.

The Manchester United forward celebrated with Ronaldo’s signature ‘Sui’ celebration, though said after the game it was a sign of respect to the Portugal captain.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of the second leg on Sunday, Ronaldo said he had no issue with Hojlund celebrating in such manner. He said he hopes that he is the one celebrating this time around, as Portugal look to turn around the tie.

“Hojlund doing my celebration is not a problem. I know it wasn’t out of disrespect,” he said.

“I understand that not only him, but in all sports, there are people who celebrate like me. I hope that tomorrow he’ll be the one to see me celebrate!”

On his side’s hopes of turning around the one-goal deficit, Ronaldo said Portugal remain confident. He admitted neither he or the side performed to the expected level in the first leg, but insisted the clash is only ‘half-time’.

“I have lost games in 90 minutes, but I have never lost in the first half. Tomorrow is the second half.

“There are games like that, there are bad days. I didn’t play at all, the team didn’t play at all, but it’s part of life.”
