Barcelona defender Ronald Araújo is set to sit out the club’s upcoming trip to the United States.

Xavi Hernández’s troops flew to Dallas late on Wednesday night, ahead of playing out a mid-season friendly meeting with Club América.

On the back of a hard-fought La Liga downing of Almería, the Blaugrana, in turn, made official their travelling squad bound for Texas.

A whole host of star names have been included, from Jules Koundé to Frenkie de Jong to Robert Lewandowski.

One headline name absent from the travelling group, as alluded to above, though, comes in the form of Ronald Araújo.

Uruguay international Araújo has of course spent the last couple of weeks making use of a face mask whilst on the pitch.

This comes after he suffered a broken jaw during Barca’s victory over Atlético Madrid at the beginning of the month.

Despite seeing out the full 90 minutes against Almería on Wednesday, Araújo has in turn come to the decision not to join his teammates on their upcoming travels.

According to Gerard Romero of Jijantes, this comes with the central defender having been penciled in for a fresh doctor’s visit, to assess ongoing ‘discomfort’ in his face.
