Barcelona star Ronald Araújo has today likened young teammate Pau Cubarsí to an iconic figure in Catalunya’s capital.

Stopper Cubarsí, of course, has exploded onto the scene in Spanish football across the season to date.

Afforded a chance to shine at the heart of Barcelona’s backline owing to a personnel crisis, the 17-year-old has not looked back, en route to establishing himself as an important member of boss Xavi’s squad.

All told, since his debut last month, Cubarsí has racked up no less than five La Liga starts, the latest of which came on Saturday, at Celta Vigo.

In turn, 24 hours on, the defensive prodigy’s partner from the off at Balaídos made use of the opportunity to lavish praise on his up-and-coming teammate.

Speaking in an interview with Lay’s, Barcelona stalwart Ronald Araújo was drawn on the remarkable talents boasted by Cubarsí, at such a young age.

And, amid a string of compliments for the teen, Araújo revealed that he has already seen considerable similarities between Cubarsí, and Blaugrana legend Gerard Piqué:

“I learned a lot from Pique, especially his intelligence. Geri was not fast, but he was very smart, he was always in the right position. Technically, he always offered a solution. He reminds me a little bit of Pau Cubarsi, because he has something of him, he’s very smart. The truth is that he has unbelievable talent at just 17 years old. I think he should be taken care of, because he will be a talent at the club for many years to come.”
