Chelsea are preparing to take on Copenhagen tomorrow in Denmark for the first leg of the Europa Conference League round of 16 clash.
The Blues have been dealing with several injuries, with key players ruled out for lengthy periods. However, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca had some good news today.
Maresca confirmed that Trevoh Chalobah, Benoit Badiashile, and Wesley Fofana are back and are raring to go.
The Italian tactician also announced that influential midfielder Romeo Lavia is back training with the team after missing a chunk of the season through injury.
Lavia has been a massive miss in the Chelsea engine room, especially when the Blues needed physicality. His absence has also not allowed Moises Caicedo to rest.
The midfielder has been out since January due to another hamstring issue, and Maresca has confirmed he will not be back in action until after the March international break.
Even though Lavia has started training with his Chelsea teammates, the 21-year-old will likely not be ready for a few weeks. A return for April 3 against Tottenham Hotspur is a probability.
Chelsea need to add physicality to their midfield. The recent slump that saw them win only two out of 10 league games was because they struggled to win their duels.
The Blues are looking forward to having Lavia back soon, but his constant injuries mean they need another presence in the engine room.
Luckily, Chelsea have Andrey Santos returning from a successful loan at sister club Strasbourg. They might sign another midfielder, with Lavia’s setbacks a cause for concern.
The Blues still have several injury concerns. Noni Madueke is out until April. It is the same with striker Nicolas Jackson. The Blues will hope to have Marc Guiu back around the same time.
