Inter striker Romelu Lukaku is set to miss out on the Nerazzurri’s training retreat in Malta next week.

This according to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, who reported today via L’Interista that the 29-year-old will stay behind in Milan to work on his fitness rather than travelling with the team for their training camp.

Lukaku’s World Cup is over after Belgium were eliminated from the group stage in Qatar.

The Nerazzurri striker is not planning on taking a lengthy break, however, and wants to get right back to training so that he can keep working on getting his physical condition up in view of the return of the Serie A season at the start of January.

The Belgian will be working at the team’s training centre in Milan starting in the next couple of days.

Lukaku will not be part of the Inter squad that travels to Malta on Sunday afternoon, however, as his priority is individual work to build up fitness.
