Romelu Lukaku did not put any pressure on Inter to hand him their no. 9 shirt at Mauro Icardi’s expense, according to Tuttosport.
The Belgian striker was aware of the delicate situation the club are handling and did not wish to aggravate the issue in any way.
Inter’s returning first team technical manager Gabriele Oriali informed Icardi of their decision on Thursday, who welcomed the news with a wry smile.
The Nerazzurri’s latest move has proved the final straw for Icardi and his wife and agent Wanda Nara, who have finally been persuaded to begin the search for a new club.
TS assured Icardi expected to lose the no. 9 shirt to Lukaku, following his arrival from Manchester United, but that is unlikely to have made it any easier to digest.
Maurito has held out hope all summer of convincing Antonio Conte to give him a second chance, but that now appears virtually impossible.
Lukaku will not make his debut for Inter against Valencia tonight because he still needs to improve his fitness.
Icardi was also excluded from Conte’s match-day squad for the trip to Spain, albeit for very different reasons.
