Romelu Lukaku is closing on a move to Inter after the forward flew to Belgium to meet his agent on Friday morning, according to the Daily Mail in England.

Lukaku returned home from Manchester United’s preseason tour in Asia and immediately took off again on another plane, having landed at 7.30am.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has left him out of every friendly match so far, with talk of a minor injury struggling to convince most news outlets.

“The powerful 6ft 3ins forward has been looking to keep himself fit to join Antonio Conte at Inter,” Simon Jones reported this morning.

“The Italian coach has set his mind on Lukaku being the focus of his attack and was disappointed with his club’s initial efforts to strike a deal with United.

“Their last bid of £54million was rejected but United staff still expect a deal to be agreed with Inter before August 8. Defining talks are expected to accelerate over the next 48 hours.”

The news comes as a surprise after Friday’s Italian papers suggested Inter were close to withdrawing their interest.

United’s asking price is thought to be too high and it seems they cannot make an improved offer until they sell Mauro Icardi or Ivan Perisic.
