Romelu Lukaku’s return to Inter is almost complete, and now the PR war can begin.

Today’s edition of the Daily Mail has translated a story from Italy claiming that the striker personally rang up Inter manager Simon Inzaghi two months ago to wish him a happy birthday, and more importantly to ask him how he could engineer a return to Italy.

To make things more painful, that was in April – the day before Chelsea’s 3-1 Champions League loss to Real Madrid. Lukaku missed a big chance in that game.

So while his teammates were preparing for the biggest game of their season, Lukaku was preparing his exit from the club. It’s not a great look, let’s be honest.

Chelsea are embarrassed by their own terrible signing, and want to make it all Lukaku’s fault, while he wants to do the opposite. So we expect to see plenty more stories like this one.
