RomaPressRoma hope to take full advantage when the January transfer window reopens in the coming weeks.

The Giallorossi’s Tiago Pinto is keen to give manager José Mourinho at least two reinforcements to ensure the team continues its push for Champions League football.

At the top of Mourinho’s wish list is a defensively-minded midfielder that can play alongside French international Jordan Veretout.

One of the players that Roma have had in their sights for several months is Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria, whose contract expires this June.

The Swiss international previously engaged in talks with the capital club last summer, however, Roma weren’t able to reach an agreement with the German side.

Since then, though, much has changed surrounding the 25 year-old, including his representation. Late in the summer he sacked his longtime representative Fali Ramadani and recently appointed Ali Dursun as his new agent.

Roma have already spoken to Dursun about a potential January transfer for Zakaria but the discussions never reached an advanced stage. Additionally, several clubs, including Juventus and Newcastle United, recently approached Dursun to express their interest in the midfielder.

Further complicating any potential deal is the large commission being requested by Zakaria’s father, who is requesting a large sum due to clubs having the chance to sign his son at a cut-rate.
