The Giallorossi remained an ever-present force throughout Italian and European football for a number of years, as well as providing their loyal and immensely passionate fanbase with plenty of star-studded talented names that have stepped out on the turf at the prestigious Stadio Olimpico.

The fabled gold and carmine colours of Roma are one of the footballing world’s most exquisite sights as the Italian giants have retained a tremendous legacy as one of the domestic league’s most patented clubs.

Roma have been a regular fixture in Serie A for a large part of their history and have enjoyed plenty of successful years across the clubs near century long history.

Roma fans are having to wait a while for a Scudetto win and the current Serie A odds on 888 Sport have them as 40/1 for the 2022/23 season so it looks unlikely once again.

Given the club’s tremendous historical stature, there are a number of impressive campaigns that Roma fans can look back on with the greatest of fondness with these being arguably the four best during the club’s magnificent history.

It’s been over 20 years since Roma last won a Scudetto, which came back in the 2000/01 season when the Italian giants topped the league ahead of Juventus and bitter rivals Lazio with 75 points.

Roma won an impressive 22 games that season with nine draws and just three losses as club legend Gabriel Batistuta finished fourth in league’s golden boot rankings with 20 goals.

Fellow icons Francesco Totti and Vincenzo Montella both impressed in the scoring column with 13 goals whilst other legendary names such as Cafu, Hidetoshi Nakata and summer signing Walter Samuel all became hugely popular assets to the club over the years.

Former England manager Fabio Capello was at the helm for Roma and helped deliver the club its first taste of Serie A glory since 1983 as they narrowly saw off Juventus on the final day of the season with a 3-1 win at home against Parma to claim title winning glory.

With only 16 teams competing in Serie A during the early 1980s period, Roma was able to win the club’s second Scudetto with only 43 points as they finished four ahead of title rivals Juventus.

Roberto Pruzzo reigned as the club’s top scorer with 12 goals in the league with this Roma side bolstering several imposing names from the 80s Italian footballing scene.

This side would also progress to the Quarterfinal Stage of the UEFA Cup where they would narrowly lose to Portuguese giants Benfica 3-2 on aggregate.

It remains as one of the club’s most successful seasons at the topflight of domestic football with this team still being merited by Italian football enthusiasts as an all-time great.

Roma’s first ever league title winning season came all the way back in 1942, only a few decades after they were first established.

After a thirty-game season, Roma topped the table by three points ahead of their closest competitors Tornio, with a total of 42 points amassed throughout the entire campaign.

With 16 wins and ten draws, Roma were able to claim top spot thanks to the efforts by club legend Amedeo Amadei who tied for runner-up in the golden boot race with 18 goals scored throughout the campaign.

The 1980s were amongst the most successful years for Roma fans to enjoy on a regular basis as following on from their 1982/83 title winning season, Roma were able to progress all the way through to the European Cup final.

This was their first and currently only European Cup final appearance in the team’s entire history with Roma also finishing as runners-up in the league, narrowly losing out on winning consecutive titles by two points to Juventus.

After comfortably dispatching of IFK Goteborg in the opening round, Roma would then see off Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia before defeating Dinamo Berlin in the Quarterfinals.

Despite enduring a major scare in the semi-finals first leg against Scottish league side Dundee United, Roma would steer away with a 3-0 home win to book their place in the final against a dynasty Liverpool side.

The game ended in a 1-1 draw with Liverpool ultimately winning on penalties to claim another European cup glory yet was still a major achievement for a spectacular Roma side that also enjoyed impressive domestic success.

Roma would also win the Italian domestic cup during the same campaign after a two-legged victory over Hellas Verona in the final, marking the fifth time that they have completed this feat.

Some other noteworthy seasons include their 2007/08 Coppa Italia winning campaign where they won the domestic cup an impressive ninth time as well as their recent 2021/22 season which was their first taste of European silverware after becoming the first team to ever win the UEFA Europa Conference League under current manager Jose Mourinho.
