Tottenham have approached former Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde

According to reputed journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur have approached former Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde as the search for a new manager continues.

Tottenham Hotspur’s hunt for a new boss seems never-ending. It has been two months now that Jose Mourinho was relieved of his duties as the first-team boss. From Julian Nagelsmann to Brendan Rodgers to Antonio Conte to Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso, it has been pretty much a trainwreck all the way. (h/t Express)

With Gattuso the latest in line to come close and fall away after talks broke down, Tottenham are keeping their options open and have been in contact with many new candidates, reports Romano. The journalist then went on to add that one of the candidates that Spurs had approached was former Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde.

The Spaniard has been without a job since January 2020 after he was let go of Barcelona to be replaced by Quique Setien. Prior to getting the sack, the 57-year-old had been in charge for two and a half years during which he won two La Liga titles, a Copa del Rey and one Spanish Super Cup.

Before his stint with Barcelona, Valverde had managed Athletic Bilbao, Villarreal and Olympiacos and had done a decent job.

Romano, though, also goes on to claim that AFC Ajax boss Erik ten Hag is back on the radars as is Ralf Rangnick.

  2. Tottenham decide against appointing Gennaro Gattuso as manager after failed talks
  3. Transfer News: Tottenham keen on Marcel Sabitzer

The entire episode of the managerial search has gone on way too long than it should have. The lack of planning and the haphazard approach is a bit shocking. This does not paint the club in a good picture. Hopefully, a resolution is reached at the earliest.
