Alessio Romagnoli’s contract will expire next summer and there has seemingly been no progress on the renewal front. Meanwhile, the captain has fought his way back into the team, also thanks to Simon Kjaer’s injury struggles.

As a result of Fikayo Tomori’s arrival in January, Romagnoli was quickly relegated to the bench and spent most of his time there in the second half of the season. At the start of this campaign, however, he has had a lot more space.

The defender, who’s also the captain of the team, has always been extremely professional and this is paying off now. Stefano Pioli has been able to rely on his qualities and this has perhaps made his future more uncertain.

According to Fabrizio Romano, in his latest piece for BenchWarmers, there are ‘high chances’ of losing Romagnoli on a free transfer next summer. Milan are on alert, therefore, and it remains to be seen if there is a solution to the matter.
