Arsenal are looking to bolster their midfield and they are interested in signing Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz, as per Fabrizio Romano.

The 25-year-old Brazilian joined Villa Park in 2019 and has become a key player for the club. He has made over 160 appearances for Villa, and the Gunners are his long-term admirers.

The Gunners reportedly ‘appreciate’ him and ‘always keep monitoring’ him. Arsenal are also keeping close tabs on Pedro Neto.

The Villa midfielder was subject to a bid from Arsenal back in 2022 but he went on to sign a new deal which runs until 2026.

While the Gunners like him, it won’t be easy to lure him away from Villa.

Luiz – outstanding for Villa

The classy midfielder has started the new campaign strongly under Unai Emery, scoring three goals in the Premier League.

He is a typical box-to-box central midfielder, who manages around 2.3 tackles per game, as per WhoScored.

His impressive performances have seen him receive plaudits from football pundits, with Gabby Agbonlahor hailing him as ‘outstanding’ last season.

The Gunners bolstered their midfield by landing Declan Rice from West Ham for a club-record fee this summer.

However, it seems the north London club are still looking to add more depth and quality in the central midfield areas.

Neto is one of the players they really admire, but Luiz has been their target for a long time.

Villa have made a terrific start to the season, and they lie fifth in the Premier League table.

It’s almost unthinkable that they will allow Luiz to leave in January unless the Gunners come up with a crazy offer.
