Stephan El Shaarawy has admitted that he always feels emotional when he goes back to play at San Siro, after his ‘dream’ spell at AC Milan.
El Shaarawy began his career at Genoa and he was signed by Milan in 2011, really breaking out in the 2012–13 season and becoming one of the most important players among the Rossoneri ranks.
In 2015–16 he went to Monaco and then spent three years at Roma, signing for Chinese club Shanghai Greenland Shenhua, before making a return to Roma 18 months later.
The 32-year-old has made well over 100 appearances in his second spell with the Giallorossi and while it might have been over eight years since he left Milan, he remains very well thought of by the fans. His potential return has even been rumoured.
El Shaarawy gave an interview to Sportmediaset and among the topics discussed, he was asked about what it was like to play against Milan ten days ago in the Coppa Italia, with his comments relayed by MilanPress.
“I think it’s impossible not to get emotional when you enter that stadium. I realised my dream of playing with that shirt [Milan], of scoring my first goal in Serie A, of playing with my idol Kakà… it’s always a great emotion to return there,” he said.
