José Mourinho has become the first manager to win all of the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League after his side ground out a hard-fought victory over the Eredivisie side.

Gianluca Mancini’s diagonal pass found Nicoló Zaniolo in the box before he chested the ball down and poked it over Justin Biljow to give Roma the lead just after the half-hour mark.

Feyenoord came out of the blocks well in the second half and almost equalised immediately. A well-worked corner led to a low cross being turned onto his own post by Mancini.

Ruí Patricio then produced a stunning save to tip Tyrell Malacia’s powerful drive from the edge of the box on to the crossbar.

There was a moment of controversy minutes later when Tammy Abraham ran through on goal but was pulled back by Marcos Senesi but the referee deemed the incident not to be worthy of a free-kick and red card.

The Dutch pressure continued to come and Mourinho had Roger Ibåñez to thank after he pulled off a stunning last-gasp tackle to take the ball off the toes of Cyriel Dessers as he was about to pull the trigger.

Attacking action was sparse for Roma in the second half but Biljow had to be alert to keep Jordan Veretout’s 25-yard shot away.

The Giallorossi held out to win their first European trophy in 61 years and to lift their first silverware of any note since the 2008 Coppa Italia.
