Serie A enters Matchday 15 this weekend with Roma hosting Fiorentina on Sunday evening in a pivotal fixture for Jose Mourinho’s men.
Sitting in fourth in the table with 24 points, the Giallorossi have an opportunity to create separation between themselves and the other competitors for the final Champions League position. Napoli, who also had 24 points entering the round, fell 1-0 to Juventus on Friday while La Viola are just one points behind.
Kick-off is scheduled for 20.45 CET at the Stadio Olimpico.
Occupying fourth in the table, the Giallorossi will look to capitalise on the Partenopei’s slip-up against Juve on Friday evening. A win over the Tuscans would open a three-point gap for Roma ahead of their brutal December schedule which includes games against Bologna, Napoli, and Juventus.
Mourinho won’t make many changes to his lineup from last Sunday’s late win over Sassuolo. Led by Paulo Dybala and Romelu Lukaku in attack, the only major switch will be on the right flank with Rasmus Kristensen expected to start over Rick Karsdorp.
Most of Roma’s struggles this season have come on the road, so they’ll undoubtedly feel confident ahead of kick-off in what’s expected to be a packed Stadio Olimpico. In fact, they’ve only conceded 2 goals in their last five home games in Serie A.
Similar to Roma, Fiorentina have experienced an up and down campaigned marred by inconsistency in their performances and results.
They enter Sunday having lost 3 of their last 5 league fixtures and narrowly squeaking past Serie B leaders Parma in their midweek Coppa Italia meeting. However, their inconsistency hasn’t prevented them from challenging for top four as they sit just one point behind Roma with 23 points in Serie A.
Manager Vincenzo Italiano received a boost ahead of kick-off when French attacker Jonathan Ikone returned to full training on Friday after dealing with an illness. Though, he’ll potentially be without his side’s strongest player in Nico Gonzalez, who’s dealing with a thigh strain.
Meanwhile, La Viola have struggled at the Stadio Olimpico, losers in 4 of their 5 league fixtures.
