Roma transfer deadline recap: Manu Kone signs; Hummels and Hermoso on Giallorossi defensive wishlist | OneFootball

With the transfer window coming to a close today, the Giallorossi were quite active despite having only 24 hours remaining until the mercato came to a sudden stop for a six-month period.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio throughout today’s hectic deadline-day, academy graduate Edoardo Bove has ultimately decided to join Fiorentina over Bundesliga side Frankfurt as he favoured a stay in Italy.

The 22-year-old joined La Viola on €1.5m one-season loan with an option to buy worth €10.5m. The option would automatically convert into an obligation in the event that the Italian international features in 60% of the Tuscan side’s games.

To fill the void in midfield, Roma beat the Rossonerri in the race for Frenchman of Borussia Monchengladbach Manu Kone, signing the 23-year-old play-maker on a loan with an obligation to buy worth €20m including add-ons.

To reinforce the front-line, the capital club finalized the swap deal between Milan involving the departure of Englishman Tammy Abraham from Roma and having received Belgian winger Alexis Saelemaekers and an additional €7m in transfer fees.

Moreover, the defensive department has not been finely tuned just yet as despite having reached an agreement with Juventus for loan with an option to buy for Tiago Djalo after the failed medicals of Kevin Danso, the Giallorossi ultimately decided to put the deal on stand-by as they evaluated several other options.

The Giallorossi have monitored the situation of former Inter central defender Milan Skriniar who is no longer part of the project of PSG, made contacts with former Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, and attempted to submit a new offer for previous transfer target Loic Balde of Sevilla.

Throughout this period of requesting information about other defensive profiles, the former Lille defender decided to cancel his potential move to Roma as the 24-year-old was frustrated by having to remain on stand-by for a lengthy period and left the capital in order to be reintegrated with the Bianconeri.

As it stands, coach Daniele De Rossi are currently competing with Turkish side Galataseray to sign former Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso on a free transfer as he is currently a free agent,  and will only pursue Mats Hummels in the event that Chris Smalling is sold to Saudi Arabia within the next couple of days.
