Roma to End the Svilar Saga, Zero In On a Few Additions

After a multi-month, if not longer, back-and-forth, Roma and Mile Svilar are ready to shake hands, quelling any concern about his future. The goalie will soon sign a new deal that will run until 2029. He’ll make €4M per year. The official announcement should come on Friday, Gianluca Di Marzio reports.

The Giallorossi had to make an effort on his wages. Their previous offers were significantly lower. However, they won’t pay any commission to his agents. More importantly, there won’t be any release clause in the contract.

Svilar joined Roma as a free agent in 2022 after his time at Benfica. He eventually supplanted Rui Patricio as the starter. He has featured in 85 matches, keeping 30 clean sheets.

The Giallorossi are also hunting for reinforcements. They are laying the groundwork for Wesley, who’s keen on joining, and are preparing a €25M offer. They are in talks with Brighton to add Evan Ferguson on an initial loan. They are eyeing Lens’ Neil El Aynaoui and Palmeiras’ Richard Rios to fortify their midfield. However, they’d need to invest about €30M to nab either.

Our Take on Roma Locking Up Svilar

The negotiation was a bit more dramatic than it needed to be since he wasn’t close to the previous expiration date. In the end, both parties can be happy with the outcome. Unless Mike Maignan re-ups with Milan, he’ll be the highest-paid goalie in Serie A.

As far as their rumored additions are concerned, they are focusing on the right areas. It remains to be determined how many expensive acquisitions they can afford and if they’ll have to make a decision about where to splurge at some point.
