AS Roma have approached West Ham United with a loan offer to sign out-of-favour striker Gianluca Scamacca, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
Scamacca is expected to leave London this summer after failing to displace Michail Antonio as the club’s primary striker and also falling behind January acquisition Danny Ings in the pecking order.
The 24-year-old has endured an injury-plagued debut campaign in the Premier League, notching just eight goals in 27 appearances across all competitions.
West Ham could green-light Scamacca’s departure just one year after his €36 million move from Sassuolo, especially if an important bid arrives.
However, it remains to be seen if they are open to the idea of a loan deal.
Despite Scamacca’s paltry statistics, the Italy international has been repeatedly linked with a return to Serie A, with Juventus reported to be keen on his signature.
The Bianconeri are looking for a long-term replacement for Dusan Vlahovic, who is poised to exit the Allianz Stadium this summer after an underwhelming campaign.
The 23-year-old has failed to justify his enormous price tag in a Juventus shirt since completing a mouth-watering €80m move from Fiorentina in January last year.
Vlahovic is open to ending his nightmare spell in Turin with a summer departure, and Juventus had earmarked Scamacca as his replacement, but Roma have taken the initiative in the race for the former Sassuolo man.
They are looking to cope with the absence of Tammy Abraham, who is set to spend nine months on the sidelines after suffering a nasty knee injury in their final Serie A match against Spezia.
Roma were hoping to part ways with Abraham this summer, just two years after plucking him from Chelsea’s hands, but the striker’s injury has thrown a spanner in their transfer plans.
The Giallorossi have now set their sights on Scamacca, and there has been contact between both clubs over the possibility of a loan deal.
