Homegrown Roma starlet Niccolo Pisilli came off the bench to score his second Serie A goal this season in a 4-1 thumping of Lecce. Claudio Ranieri posted his first victory since returning to the Stadio Olimpico for the third time following a three-match winless start.
Roma desperately needed a win against the division’s lowest-scoring side after going winless in six consecutive games in the build-up. Stuck in Serie A’s lower reaches, the Giallorossi took advantage of Juventus’ slip-up to reduce the gap on a coveted sixth place to 11 points.
While waiting for marquee midfield signing Enzo Le Fee to regain match fitness, Ranieri called upon Roma youngster Pisilli. The Italian prodigy answered the call with his second league goal at the Olimpico this season. Alexis Saelemaekers, Gianluca Mancini, and Manu Kone were also on target.
After the game, Pisilli admitted that celebrating with the Roma ultras was a ‘dream come true.’
“I followed the move from behind, Paulo gave a great pass to Saud, who laid it off well for me, so it was a great team move,” the Roma teenager told Sky Sport Italia via TMW. “I try to give 100 percent every time and that’s the main thing. Some people like me more than others, but the most important thing is to give my all.
