A sensational report from Il Corriere dello Sera (via LazioNews24) claims Roma are plotting a massive blow to Lazio by snatching Daichi Kamada on a free transfer.

The Biancocelesti signed the 27-year-old last summer as a free agent after seeing out his contract with Eintracht Frankfurt. However, he only penned a one-year deal which will expire at the end of the season.

The Japanese star can unilaterally extend his contract with Lazio for another three years by activating an automatic renewal clause before May 30th. But as reported earlier, he prefers to waive this option in order to renegotiate better renewal terms and in the meantime, Roma have reportedly entered the fray.

As the source tells it, the Giallorossi are looking to avenge themselves for Pedro’s Lazio move in 2021. The two clubs share one of the most heated rivalries in Europe, so direct transfers from one side to the other are a rarity. The report expects the next few days to be intense on this particular front.

Kamada struggled for playing time at the beginning of the season under the guidance of Maurizio Sarri but immediately cemented himself as a protagonist in Igor Tudor’s 3-4-2-1 system. He can operate as a central midfielder, or in a more advanced role behind the striker.
