The 2-0 defeat against Atalanta marks a new chapter in the crisis of Roma, now on the verge of the relegation zone.

An alarming fact emerges from history: 46 years have passed since the last time the Giallorossi started a season so badly.

In the 1978-79 championship, Roma, on the 14th matchday, lost against Atalanta in Bergamo, on a snow-covered pitch and with an unfortunate own goal by Santarini.

That year they managed to save themselves only on the last matchday.

Things went even worse in 1950-51, with only two wins, four draws and eight defeats in the first 14 games. A performance that cost Roma the only relegation in its history to Serie B.

The current situation is worrying for disturbing similarities.

The numbers tell of a team incapable of reacting: a sterile attack and a vulnerable defense.

Coach Claudio Ranieri is trying to reunite the group, writes Il Corriere della Sera, but the road is all uphill.

If Roma wants to avoid rewriting another dark page in its history, it will be essential to reverse the trend starting from the next matches. The spectre of the past is a warning, but also a stimulus to get back up.
