Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini is expected to undergo surgery on his right femoral thigh tendon, which means his season is over, and the club may struggle to sell him this summer.

Several sources in Italy claim Roma captain Pellegrini will have surgery due to a femoral tendon injury.

The Italy international was ruled out of the latest match against Atalanta and won’t return to action for the last two games of the campaign.

According to Calciomercato.com, Pellegrini will undergo surgery in Finland this weekend.

Pellegrini has had a troubled season in the capital. As Claudio Ranieri explained multiple times, his poor relationship with part of the fan base was reflected by a lack of confidence on the pitch.

Pellegrini has only scored three goals, provided three assists in 34 appearances across all competitions, and was not a regular starter under Daniele De Rossi, Ivan Juric or Claudio Ranieri.

Roma put him on the market in the latest January window, but received no offers, also because the 28-year-old was already not fully fit.

Calciomercato claims that Pellegrini could remain out of action for over two months following his surgery, affecting Roma’s search for a buyer.

Pellegrini’s contract in the capital expires in June 2026, but talks over a new deal have not even begun.
