Roma head coach Claudio Ranieri criticised star man Paulo Dybala for a drop in his intensity in recent matches.

Speaking to the press (via La Gazzetta dello Sport) in the pre-match conference ahead of Roma’s clash with Lecce, Ranieri did not hold back his assessment of Paulo Dybala’s performances this season. The 73-year-old manager remarked: “I’m not happy with Dybala’s intensity but I am with how he played.”

The Giallorossi have faced significant problems this season in the goalscoring department even with the introduction of Artem Dovbyk amongst the ranks. Dybala, who was a regular name on the scoresheet last term, is finding it hard to sync with the team’s overall decline in form, and therefore the drop in performances.

Roma have scored 14 goals from the 14 Serie A games played this campaign, and the Argentine has contributed only two so far. However, Ranieri affirmed that “intensity is not Dybala’s quality” as he has a different playing style.

Roma are winless in their last six matches across all competitions and this weekend’s fixture against Lecce could prove to be the turnaround for them.
