Wantaway Roma forward Nicolo Zaniolo reportedly has his heart on joining fellow Serie A rivals AC Milan by the end of January.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the 23-year-old is keen on linking up with soon-to-be former Scudetto holders despite growing interest from the Premier League.

Following Tottenham Hotspur, relegation-threatened Bournemouth recently made an official approach to sign the Italy international, offering €30 million plus add-ons and a 10% sell-on clause to Roma.

While the Giallorossi may be inclined to green-light Zaniolo’s switch to the Cherries, the player’s desire to stay in his homeland with the Rossoneri could blow up the deal.

Milan’s hopes of winning back-to-back Serie A titles for the first time in the 21st century are dead in the water after an underwhelming three-game winless league streak (D2, L1).

Runaway leaders Napoli have taken full advantage of the reigning champions’ dip in form to move 12 points clear at the summit, leaving Stefano Pioli to pick up the slacks.

One of the main reasons behind Milan’s poor domestic form is a lack of strength in depth, especially in the attacking area, where Junior Messias, Charles De Ketelaere and Alexis Saelemaekers continue to frustrate the manager.

Pioli has made the signing of a new winger a top priority for the ongoing transfer window, but a lack of funds has proved a stumbling block to his effort to revamp his offensive options.

Chelsea star Hakim Ziyech has been atop Milan’s wishlist since last summer, yet the Italians have recently changed priorities, hoping to capitalise on Roma’s decision to cash in on Zaniolo.

Negotiations between the clubs have yet to pick up momentum, with recent speculation even linking the ex-Inter Milan man with a shock switch to Paris Saint-Germain.

However, if the player is hellbent on moving to the Stadio San Siro, it’s only a matter of time before the Rossoneri bring their domestic rivals to the table.
