Roma have decided to back out of negotiations with the club’s former defender Kostas Manolas after their agreement with Germany and Borussia Dortmund legend Mats Hummels, according to Wednesday’s reports.
Reports over the last few days confirmed that Roma had entered discussions over a surprise return for Manolas, who made 206 appearances for the Giallorossi in all competitions over a five-year spell between 2014 and 2019.
The two parties had even discussed the financial details, as the former Greece international was set to earn a €500,000 contract until the end of the 2024-25 season.
Roma have been busy in the free agent market, and have added former Atletico Madrid centre-back Mario Hermoso to their ranks, while Hummels is set to have his medical in Italy on Wednesday.
Their arrivals are part of the reason why Roma have decided to back out of discussions with Manolas according to Corriere dello Sport. Roma do not want to spend unnecessarily, and in all likelihood, Manolas would not have been included in the club’s squad for the UEFA Europa League.
