Leonardo Spinazzola was forced off the pitch with an injury in the first half of Roma’s decisive Europa League semi-final against Bayer Leverkusen.

The 31-year-old Italian full back has featured semi-regularly this season for the Giallorossi under both Jose Mourinho and Daniele De Rossi, seeing 2044 minutes of action across 35 appearances this term, netting one goal and providing four assists.

Whilst Spinazzola is appreciated for his creativity and ability to burst forward down the left, he has also developed a reputation as an injury-prone player, being infamously sidelined with an Achilles tendon rupture during Italy’s successful Euro 2020 campaign.

In the 20th minute of Roma’s Europa League semi-final second leg with Bayer Leverkusen, Spinazzola went down with an injury, looking pained on the turf. Jeremie Frimpong didn’t put the ball out of play, sparking a minor scuffle on the pitch.

The 31-year-old Giallorossi full back was replaced by Nicola Zalewski, forcing De Rossi to adapt his plans for the remainder of the decisive clash in Germany.
