Serie A side Roma are interested in the possibility of landing Union Berlin defender Leonardo Bonucci.

Bonucci left Juventus in the summer in what was an acrimonious exit and ended up joining German side Union Berlin, where he hasn’t quite become a regular amidst the club’s poor run of form.

La Gazzetta dello Sport state that Bonucci could already leave Union in January, even if he signed a one-year deal at the club in the summer. The veteran is interested in a return to Italy in January and Roma are looking at his situation right now.

The Giallorossi are facing a defensive emergency because of injuries and suspensions and they have financial limitations to abide by. Tiago Pinto wants to sign a defender in January and he is looking at cheap options that could provide value in the market.

An option is Bonucci, who could convince Union to have his contract terminated. He is seen as a cheaper option than Rennes Arthur Theate and Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah. Flamengo are interested in signing Matias Vina permanently and Roma could cut short his loan stint at Sassuolo to earn some cash to bring Bonucci to the club.
