Il Tempo reports that Roma started this morning’s training session without the Betway logo on their training shirt. After only one year, Roma will, reportedly, be forced to terminate the three-year sponsorship agreement with the gambling outfit. Why? It’s due to Italy’s “Dignity Decree”. Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister Luigi Di Maio announced last summer that as of 24 July 2018, all forms of gambling marketing wouldn’t be valid. Roma and Betway were certain they were in compliance of the law, however, this doesn’t appear to be the case. Article 9 of the decree prohibits any form of advertising, even indirect, relating to betting and gambling, regardless of how it is carried out. Therefore, Roma loses about €5 million per season, but the damage also extends to another fourteen Serie A clubs that have public gaming companies as sponsors.
