Roma made the trip to Sassuolo on Sunday and needed a bit of luck to come out with all three points.
Scorers: Henrique 26′; Dybala 75′ (P), Kristensen 82′. Red: Boloca 63′
Jose Mourinho will surely have a few words for his squad after this result as Roma needed to dig deep to peg back Sassuolo. But we’re sure he’ll take it!
The visitors were well in control of the game (67% possession of the ball) but couldn’t find their scoring touch throughout the first half.
That allowed Matheus Henrique to open the scoring for Sassuolo after tapping home at the back post.
But a lapse in judgment from Daniel Boloca was the first stroke of bad luck for the hosts after the break, and it turned the tie on its head.
VAR deemed his challenge on Leandro Paredes was a red card and Sassuolo were down a man.
Roma then woke up in the final 15 minutes to pull off a sensational comeback thanks to a key man off the bench.
Rasmus Kristensen won the penalty that Paulo Dybala converted before a strike from the Dane took a wicked deflection and stunned goalkeeper Andrea Consigli.
The win means Mourinho’s men sit fifth, level on points with fourth-place Napoli. Sassuolo, meanwhile, are 15th.
