Roma are interested in making a move for Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret, who’ll be a free agent in the summer.

New Giallorossi coach Daniele De Rossi has continued to place his trust in long-term number one Rui Patricio, but the Portuguese veteran’s contract expires at the end of the season and a new deal isn’t expected, pushing the club to start thinking ahead.

De Rossi is expected to give more chances to backup option Mile Svilar in the coming months to see if he’s ready to take over the starting role, but Roma are planning to intervene in the coming summer transfer window.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport via TMW, Roma have made contact to inquire about Meret’s contract situation at Napoli, aware that his deal is set to expire at the end of June. An automatic one-year extension clause is present in his contract, which’ll activate should he play 70% of games.

The 26-year-old Italian shot stopper has currently played 22 out of a possible 32 for Napoli, putting him at 68%, just below the threshold. His current salary is around €1.8m net per season.
