RomaPress – After days filled with transfer speculation, Roma have emphatically rejected the idea that they’re in talks to sign ex-Juve and current Manchester United attacker Cristiano Ronaldo.

Transfer whispers linking the Giallorossi to the 37 year-old emerged early last week after the Red Devils expressed interest in parting ways with the veteran attacker.

As a result, the capital club were among the rumored favorites to land the Portuguese international due to their close ties with his agent Jorge Mendes.

However, multiple sources from both The Friedkin Group and the club’s communications department were emphatic the club were never in talks to acquire Cristiano Ronaldo and that they have “different transfer market objectives in mind.”

The denial from the Giallorossi is hardly a surprise. Since his arrival, Tiago Pinto has sought to overhaul Roma’s wage bill and has been conservative in his contract negotiations—seeking to curb the club’s previous overspending on agent fees and bad long-term contracts.

Ronaldo earns nearly €30 million (net) per season—a figure nearly 7x the Giallorossi’s highest earner, Lorenzo Pellegrini.
