A very healthy midweek Coppa crowd of over 60,000 were in attendance at the Olimpico but they were frustrated by the Serie B side for the scoreless opening half.

The organised Grifoni were comfortable in keeping Roma at bay, although they did suffer one major scare when Lorenzo Pellegrini drove a strike against the crossbar.

Paulo Dybala went close after the restart, only to bring a fantastic save out of the goalkeeper and although he got a hand to the opener on 64 minutes, couldn’t keep it out.

That goal came from Dybala who wouldn’t be denied again as he turned on the edge of the box, weaved his way past two challenges inside the area and then thrashed his attempt home on the angle for the winner.

He rejoiced by running to the Curva Sud and donning a Bizarrap (an Argentine DJ) baseball cap in front of them – perhaps picking up a thing or two from Francesco Totti when it comes to unconventional goal celebrations.

The Giallorossi’s reward is a tie with Serie A leaders Napoli or Cremonese in the quarter-final.
