Despite the player’s denial of this operation, Roma seriously considered bringing Kostas Manolas back on a free transfer.

The Giallorossi were tempted to add the Greek centre-back to their roster in recent days as they signed the likes of Mario Hermoso and Mats Hummels in free agency.

Only two days ago, Manolas had fueled speculation with a story published on social media, where he hinted at his possible return.

As reported by Corriere della Sera, Roma had confirmed the existence of the negotiation, which involved an annual contract worth 450 thousand euros.

However, after the arrival of Mats Hummels, the club decided to take a step back, preferring not to finalize the agreement with the Greek defender.

After an internal discussion in Trigoria yesterday morning, the Giallorossi management opted not to continue with the negotiations and decided not to formalize the agreement.

The decision seems to reflect a club strategy aimed at giving more space to young players and investing in more promising defenders, while maintaining defensive solidity with the inclusion of Hummels.

According to Leggo, Roma were also not convinced by Manolas’ physical condition which has been in decline over the last few years, most recently during his spell at Salernitana.
