Roma have announced they have signed Leandro Paredes from Paris Saint-Germain on a two-year deal.

The 29-year-old previously played for Roma between 2014 and 2017, bagging four goals in 54 appearances in all competitions.

The Argentine subsequently joined Russian outfit Zenit Saint Petersburg before moving to PSG in a €40 million deal.

But the move didn’t work out as he failed to meet expectations at the Parc des Princes due to a lack of form and fitness issues.

Paredes went on loan to Juventus for the 2022-23 season, hoping to reignite his career in the Serie A.

However, he struggled to feature regularly, with Massimiliano Allegri preferring Adrien Rabiot and Manuel Locatelli in midfield.

He played in 25 top-flight matches but was part of the starting XI on only eight occasions.

Juventus had the option to make the move permanent for €22.6m but decided against it.

That allowed Roma to sign the defensive midfielder for a €4m transfer fee.

Paredes said: “Coming back to Rome is always a special thing, but doing so now as a Roma player is even more special.

“I’d like to thank the fans for welcoming me and Roma for bringing me back to the club where I launched my career in Europe.

“Last year was an incredibly happy one for me with the World Cup, so now I want to keep tasting success and I’m convinced I can do just that with this team.”

Jose Mourinho maintained his ‘serial winner’ reputation when he won the Europa Conference League trophy in his first season at Roma.

The Portuguese manager also came very close to adding another last season when Roma made it to the final of the Europa League.
