Roma head coach Jose Mourinho has spoken about the indirect importance which another former Inter player had for his time in charge of the Nerazzurri.

Speaking to Italian news outlet DAZN, the Portuguese tactician explained how even before joining the Nerazzurri, striker Giampaolo Pazzini played in important role in a success for Inter.

Pazzini joined Inter from Sampdoria in the summer of 2011, but as Mourinho points out, even before this he had a major part to play in the Nerazzurri’s historic treble while he was playing for Sampdoria.

Pazzini scored a brace to condemn Roma to a 2-1 defeat at the Stadio Olimpico late in the 2009-10 season, and it was this result which allowed Mourinho’s Nerazzurri team to overtake the Giallorossi at the top of the league, a position that they would not relinquish as they won the Scudetto alongside their triumphs in the Copa Italia and the Champions League.

“Pazzini never played for me, but he helped me win the Treble because we were level points with Roma when he scored two goals at the Olimpico,” Mourinho explained. “It was the day when Inter took the lead. Then we won the Treble. So even if I didn’t have him, he was very important for my career!”
