Roma manager Daniele de Rossi has stated that the club has to fight for the Champions League this season, following their dissapointing draw against Genoa.
The Italian’s side dominated enough in the first half and deserved their 1-0 lead, which came because of Artem Dovbyk’s goal before half-time. But Koni de Winter scored a stoppage time header to make sure that Roma remained winless in the Serie A, having played four games.
After the game, De Rossi spoke to Sky Italia about the result and he sent the message that the Giallorrossi just have to qualify for the Champions League.
He said, as relayed by Gianluca di Marzio: “I think it’s a team that has to fight for the Champions League. This is our objective. From there to becoming a failure if you don’t get there is another matter. There are many teams. We have made an important transfer market for what is our objective. These points lost, however, weigh on the standings and, above all, on the mood.”
He also spoke about the performance, stating that his side did dominate the first half but they dropped back in the second half and errors led Genoa coming back into the game.
“We dominated the first half. In the second half we dropped back a bit to be able to restart. We made too many technical errors and this gives confidence to your opponents.”
Roma are now at 14th in the table and have to get wins on the board soon.
