Roma approach Stade Rennes right-back Lorenz Assignon, who was on loan at Burnley, but lose target Georges Mikautadze to AS Monaco.

The defender turned 24 only a few weeks ago and can play both as a right-back and in a more advanced role down the same flank.

A product of the Rennes academy, Assignon spent last season in England on loan at Burnley, where he made 15 Premier League appearances, scoring one goal and providing two assists.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Burnley would be interested in making the loan move permanent, but the player is not prepared to drop down to the Championship following their relegation.

Roma target Assignon, but lose Mikautadze

Somewhat inevitably, Roma are keeping a close eye on the French transfer market after hiring new director of sport Florent Ghisolfi.

However, they do seem to have lost out on another target for the attack, as multiple reports in France this evening state AS Monaco have agreed a deal for FC Metz and Georgia international striker Mikautadze worth €25m.

He had also been linked with Bologna this summer after an impressive showing at EURO 2024.

Other candidates for the Roma attack include Villarreal giant Alexander Sorloth.
