A goal in the 98th minute saw Red Bull Bragantino snap Flamengo’s 16-match unbeaten run leaving manager Rogério Ceni looking for answers.

After the loss, the 48-year-old admitted Flamengo must remain on high alert even if they dominate on the pitch as any lapse in focus can result in a collapse.

“There are days when things don’t happen as we expect,” said Ceni.

“We created a large number of chances, with a good volume of play … but, in addition to scoring two goals, we suffered with some transitions and a set-piece goal, which even had a bit of luck.”

“A great game, but I think we controlled the match. We had a high percentage of ball possession, we created great chances, but we missed a little in the transition.”

“A team that plays at the top line and is always on goal, as is our case, when it picks up fast players, it ends up suffering in the transition.”

“So we have to be prepared to kill the move, but today we failed in that sense.”

Additionally, Ceni received heaps of backlash after only using one of the available five substitutes but backed his decision after the match.

“Defensively, I had a lot of substitutions, but right now, where teams have important players in the national team, we had three boys on the bench,” he said.

“It was a very big risk to make these changes … I think it was the best team we had to keep on the field.”

Flamengo currently sit ninth in the Campeonato Brasileiro table after three matches.
