Rogério Ceni insisted he would not spend much time celebrating his first win as Flamengo manager.

The former Fortaleza boss took charge of the Rubro-Negro following the dismissal of Domènec Torrent, but had suffered two Copa do Brasil defeats and been held by Atlético Goianiense in the league in his opening three games.

However, the 3-1 victory over Coritiba on Saturday helped Ceni break his duck, with the added bonus of sending his new side temporarily top of the Brasileirão table.

“I’m satisfied, happy, happy. Relieved? The coach does not celebrate more than five, ten minutes. But it was a necessary and helpful victory,” Ceni said, per Gazeta Esportiva.

The win came using the 4-4-2 formation that had brought Jorge Jesus so much success during his time in charge of the Mengão.

But Ceni insisted that it is also his preferred approach, and that he will mould Flamengo in his own image.

“This system I use since March 2019. Fortaleza plays exactly as Flamengo plays, with different players, obviously,” Ceni said.

“It is a very simple system, which I work and like. I don’t climb because they used it, but because it is my system.”

Flamengo turn their attention to the Copa Libertadores now ahead of their trip to face Argentinian side Racing Club on Tuesday in a Round of 16 first leg tie.
