Roger Martínez appears to be a doubt for América’s game against Necaxa next Saturday.
The 27-year-old striker was on the end of some rough treatment during Thursday’s 0-0 draw at Querétaro.
It led manager Santiago Solari to make the following comment in the wake of the 2021 Apertura opener: “Roger is punished a lot, the great players who are prestigious in the league must be taken care of.”
ESPN reporter Cesar Cabellero tweeted about the situation following team training on Friday.
“This is how Roger Martínez leaves practice this Friday with a knee brace and limping.
“Yesterday Solari talked about what to take more care of the talented player.
“We will have to wait for its evolution.”
The Azucrema can ill afford to lose Martínez for their first home game of the fledgling season.
Las Águilas are already making do without attacking duo Henry Martín and Sebastián Córdova who are away in Tokyo on Olympics duty with Mexico.
