Real Madrid forward Rodrygo has claimed that Neymar is already making plans to retire from international duty, including who to name the heir to his number ten shirt.

30-year-old Neymar has long been rumoured to be considering stepping back from Brazil, with the 2022 World Cup in Qatar later this year expected to be the final tournament appearance for the Paris Saint-Germain forward.

Should that be the case, Neymar would have just six months to net the four goals he needs to overtake Pele as the leading scorer in the history of the Brazil national team.

While Rodrygo did not put a time frame on Neymar's departure, he did confirm that the PSG man is thinking about calling it a day.

"Neymar said, 'I'm already leaving the national team and the number ten is yours'," Rodrygo told Podpah. "I didn't even know what to say to him. I giggled and didn't even know what to say properly.

"I told him that he has to play some more, that I didn't want him to go now and stuff, and he just laughed."

As well as his international future, Neymar's time at PSG has also been under the spotlight in recent weeks.

Numerous reports have suggested that PSG are willing to part ways with Neymar this summer after sinking a significant sum of money in Kylian Mbappe's new contract, with the Brazilian's age and lengthy injury record working against him.

However, it was recently claimed that Neymar has no plans to leave Paris, despite the Ligue 1 champions stressing the need to reduce their wage budget.
