Real Madrid's Rodrygo Goes has had a shock this week. It's only going to inch him closer to Liverpool.
Liverpool have consistently been linked with Rodrygo over the last six or so months. Certainly, we saw reports increase dramatically in the early summer.
There was a good reason for that, too. Xabi Alonso is the new boss at Real Madrid and doesn't appear to fancy the Brazilian all that much.

He barely used Rodrygo across their FIFA Club World Cup campaign. The sense is that the winger is on the outside looking in right now and faces a massive challenge to become a regular under Alonso.
However, that hasn't necessarily pushed Rodrygo towards the exit door. He's proving to be quite stubborn about it all, unwilling to leave Real Madrid unless it's for a lot of money.
Stay and fight for his place - that's what Rodrygo wants to do. Or at least, that's what he wanted to do.
Now he's suffered a clear blow and it's one that inches him closer to an exit. And to Liverpool.
Rodrygo has been left out of the Brazil squad for their upcoming internationals, says TNT Sports. It's a particularly notable one as Carlo Ancelotti is now the head coach there.
Ancelotti was Rodrygo's coach at Real Madrid, of course, but he doesn't appear to back him. It's a sign that the player's stock is at an all-time low right now.
Real Madrid don't want him, Brazil doesn't want him...
But you know who does? Liverpool. Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola reiterated that this week and the Reds' interest is about as long-standing as it gets.
