Everton locked horns with Southampton at the St. Mary’s Stadium earlier today hoping to continue their unbeaten run in the Premier League. The Toffees made a sloppy start to the contest and conceded the opener to James Ward-Prowse in the 27th minute. Che Adams doubled the home team’s advantage just eight minutes later as the Saints went into the half-time break two goals to the good.

Both teams fought tooth and nail in the second 45 minutes but were unable to add to the scoreline as the contest finished 2-0 in favour of Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side.

Let’s take a look at how each Everton player fared during the clash against the Saints.

GK: Jordan Pickford – 6.5/10

The Toffees goalie pulled off some solid stops to keep the scoreline down for his side and even made a couple of important clearances during the game.

RB: Ben Godfrey – 5/10

He was far from convincing at the back and struggled to create anything of note in the opposition half.

CB: Michael Keane – 6/10

The English defender will be disappointed for allowing two goals in the first half. However, he came back and put in a much-improved display in the second.

CB: Yerry Mina – 6/10

The towering centre-back made a slow start to the game. He was strong in the air and was not afraid to put his body on the line to stop the opposition. However, the damage was already done in the first half.

LB: Lucas Digne – 4/10

The French left-back committed too many fouls and was defensively vulnerable throughout the 90 minutes. He even failed to make an impact in the final third and let his teammates down by getting sent off in the 72nd minute.

CM: Gylfi Sigurdsson – 5/10

The Icelandic international struggled to get a foothold in the game in what was another lacklustre display from him today.

CM: Allan – 6.5/10

The Brazilian deserves some credit for showing some bite and steel at the centre of the park even after going two goals down in the first half. He kept himself busy defensively and was one of Ancelotti’s better performers during the game.

CM: Abdoulaye Doucoure – 5.5/10

Doucoure didn’t give a good account of himself in the first 45 minutes and got subbed off near the hour mark.

LW: Alex Iwobi – 5/10

The former Arsenal winger offered very little in the first half and got replaced at half-time.

ST: Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 5.5/10

It was a significant drop in form as he was completely bullied out of the game by the Saints defenders. He didn’t even manage a shot during the 90 minutes.

RW: James Rodriguez – 6.5/10

The ex-Real Madrid playmaker was probably the only player in his team who looked like he had a goal in him. He wasn’t afraid to have a shot on-target and was always looking to create some decent openings for his teammates up top.

Substitutes:

LW: Bernard – 7/10

The Brazilian winger was bright and inventive after coming on at half-time but didn’t do enough to get his name on the scoresheet.

ST: Anthony Gordon – 6/10

He struggled to get into the game after coming off the bench near the hour mark.

CM: Fabian Delph – 6/10

Delph offered some fresh legs in midfield.
