He was in the starting lineup once again for the final against France at Lusail Stadium.

He played 101 minutes as Argentina emerged victorious in a six-goal thriller.

The game went all the way to penalties after finishing 3-3.

And it was the South American side that got the better of their opponents on spot-kicks to win their third World Cup title.

De Paul always believed Argentina would win the World Cup

A note that De Paul wrote months before this year’s tournament has emerged on social media.

The note was written in September and was shared to social media by his girlfriend’s brother, Francisco Stoessel.

The note read: “I am Rodrigo De Paul (7). It is 9/18/2022. I sign this paper and say that we will win the World Cup two months from now.”

De Paul also prophesied that Argentina would win the 2021 Copa America months before the tournament.

Reacting to the note on his Twitter page following the game, the Atletico Madrid star wrote: “Believe. Always believe.”

De Paul was always sure that Argentina would win the World Cup.

They got off to an awful start in Qatar as they were shocked by Saudi Arabia in their opening game.

But they recovered well from that set-back and were worthy winners in the end.

De Paul: it’s one of the happiest days of my life

De Paul was extremely emotional after his side’s victory and summarised just how much Argentina’s triumph meant to him in a post-match interview.

“The truth is we were born to suffer,” he said, per football-espana.

“We love all of the Argentines, the suffering, it made us greater. For me, it’s one of the happiest days of my life. This is the key to eternity. We will be eternal for what we achieved.”

“I’m proud, we have raised the flag at the summit of the world. The truth is, we f***ing deserve it.”

He added: “If there is a single idiot that still doubts it, Messi is the best of all time.”
