Argentina were crowned 2022 World Cup champions on Sunday afternoon after beating France in the most dramatic of matches.
The South American giants led 2-0 with 15 minutes remaining courtesy of goals from Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria.
France were far from their best for the vast majority of the game but, somehow, they managed to take the game to extra-time thanks to Kylian Mbappe’s brace.
Argentina thought they had won it once more when Messi notched his second in the 108th minute.
But France would not give up and were given a golden opportunity to restore parity once more when they were awarded a spot-kick.
Mbappe stepped up and made no mistake as he completed his hat-trick and sent the game to penalties.
Argentina weren’t to be denied, though, as Emiliano Martinez’s heroics ensured it was them that emerged victorious.
Rodrigo De Paul was one of Argentina’s best performers throughout the tournament.
However, despite putting in a string on impressive performances, the Atletico Madrid midfielder has been criticised by some.
And De Paul took the opportunity to hit back at his critics after the match.
Nicolas Otamendi was broadcasting live from Argentina’s dressing room on Instagram after the match.
He was sitting alongside De Paul as he declared the importance of winning the World Cup.
De Paul intervened as he agreed before unleashing an X-rated rant directed at his doubters.
He said, per the Sun: “We are in history for eternity… And all those who doubted, suck my d*** well.
“They threw me from all sides and did not turn me over.
“Eat my whole d***! W*****”
Otamendi clearly wasn’t prepared for De Paul’s rant as he looked taken back.
“He’s crazy!” The Argentine centre-back jokingly said in reaction to the outburst.
De Paul also spoke to the media after the game where he declared his happiness at his side’s achievement.
He said, per Goal: “We suffered a lot, but it feels so good. We were born to suffer, it hardens us, as we are going to suffer all our lives. We always carry the flag everywhere; I hope our fans are as happy as we are.”
