Rodgers and Evans refuse to rule out Leicester title challenge after latest win | OneFootball

Leicester’s excellent form continued at Villa Park this afternoon with a 4-1 win over Aston Villa, and with the Foxes currently the team closest to challenging Liverpool for the title, manager Brendan Rodgers and goalscorer Jonny Evans certainly didn’t rule out the prospect of another memorable title challenge.

As has often been the case this season, Jamie Vardy was key for Leicester, opening the scoring in the first half before rounding off the victory with his 11th goal in his last eight, closing in on his own record of scoring in 11 consecutive matches.

The win means that the Foxes have now won all of their last eight Premier League matches, a run which has seen them comfortably secure second spot in the table, eight points behind Liverpool and six ahead of Man City following their defeat in the Manchester derby on Saturday.

Speaking afterwards, Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers admitted that he is looking to chase down his former side.

“We will just concentrate on playing as well as we can and with a performance level as high as we can,” Rodgers told Sky Sports.

“Wherever we are in the table we always look to chase the team in front of us, we look for us to keep pushing, keep fighting and keep developing. We will always do our best.”

Meanwhile, Blues’ centre-back Jonny Evans – a three-time title winner during his time with Manchester United –  was also asked about another title challenge from the side who famously clinched the 2015/16 title against all odds.

“We’re up there, we’re challenging, we’re playing well,” the Northern Irishman told Sky Sports. “Probably now, after today, people will start talking a bit more about that.

“It’s the best Villa team I’ve played against in quite a few years, the way they play is very good and we had to grind it out. It shows we’re capable of coming away and getting a result like that.

“It’s good [being talked about as title contenders], that’s what you want, people want recognition for how they’re playing, everyone likes to be bumped up a bit so it’s nice that people are talking about us.

“But we know there’s a long way to go, we’ve got to concentrate on our job and I think we’re all enjoying it, that’s a big factor as well. There’s a good spirit around the club.”

Next up for Leicester is a home tie against struggling Norwich, before two huge festive fixtures, Brendan Rodgers side playing Man City and Liverpool in games at either side of Christmas.
