Paul Robinson has slammed “awful” Eric Dier and suggested his days at Tottenham may be numbered.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England shot-stopper urged the club to sign “two new centre-halves” this summer in light of their performances.

Toby Alderweireld also failed to win a single aerial duel over the course of the 90 minutes.

The loss all but ends Tottenham’s hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League, with two teams and seven points separating themselves and fourth-placed Leicester City.

Robinson claimed there is a “huge” few weeks ahead for his former club.

“They were just awful defensively,” he told Football Insider.

“You look at Bamford’s goal, he was surrounded by four Spurs defenders yet no-one got anywhere near him. Their defending has left a lot to be desired and it has all season.

“Dier was poor and so was Toby. There was no cohesion between the pair of them and their communication seemed non-existent.

“Everything was far too easy for Leeds. Yes, they played well against Sheffield United but they were already relegated. They come up against a half decent Leeds side and they fold again.

“I’m really worried for Tottenham. This next six weeks or so will be huge for the club ahead of the transfer window. They need to sign two new centre-halves. Where does that leave Dier? I’m not sure.”
