Fiorentina wingback Robin Gosens has made a comical admission about his transfer from Dutch side Heracles to Atalanta in 2017. During his recent interview, the 30-year-old confessed he had to ‘Google’ the Bergamo outfit before deciding to join them.

Atalanta signed Gosens as an unknown entity seven years ago and established him as one of Europe’s hottest prospects. His rise to stardom at the Gewiss Stadium earned him a high-profile switch to Inter in January 2022, but he couldn’t find his footing at Giuseppe Meazza.

Following a season-long stint at Union Berlin, Gosens returned to Serie A this season, linking up with Fiorentina on loan with a mandatory buyout clause. The German ace opened up on his maiden experience in Italy’s top flight, admitting Atalanta sent emissaries to negotiate his arrival, even though he didn’t have a clue who they were.

When I was in Holland Sartori called me to come and play at Atalanta, a club I didn’t know. I googled the team and saw that it was going to the Europa League, and so I accepted,” Gosens said, as reported by Gianluca Di Marzio. “It was not easy at first to leave my country and my family, but then everything went well.

The first year, I suffered mentally. I had a coach who asked a lot of his players and who is certainly a genius on the pitch, but he can also be a bit of a difficult person off the pitch,” Gosens continued. “He knows it too so I won’t tell secrets.
