Belgium manager Roberto Martínez could be set to make a shock return to Everton to take up their vacant managerial role.
The 48-year-old has emerged as the frontrunner to replace Rafael Benítez who was sacked earlier on Sunday.
Everton have already spoken to the Belgian FA about the possibility of Martínez joining the club according to The Telegraph.
Benítez left his position following the 2-1 defeat to Norwich City on Saturday which saw the Toffees slip to 16th in the table and lie just six points above the relegation zone.
Martínez spent three years at Goodison Park, arriving in June 2013 and led the club into the Europa League after achieving a fifth-placed finish in his first season.
However, he left Everton in May 2016 with the club 12th in the table and took over the role as Belgium boss in August.
Belgium achieved a third-placed finish at the 2018 World Cup under Martínez and were knocked out of the quarter-finals at Euro 2020 by eventual winners Italy.
